Job summary

Providence Public School District in Providence, Rhode Island, seeks a Deputy Superintendent of Operations to lead Human Resources, Finance, and Operations. This role supports the Superintendent, guides cross-departmental initiatives, and ensures high-quality service to schools and central offices.

With 7–10 years in school operations, HR, or finance, you will oversee district goals, collaborate with senior leaders, and participate in labor negotiations.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of relevant experience in school operations, human resources, and/or finance
• Experience leading and managing large teams
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to work nights and weekends, as needed
• Experience in large, urban district

Responsibilities

• Oversees district operations; serves as advisor to Superintendent on operational issues
• Serves on Superintendent’s Executive Leadership team
• Responsible for ensuring effective planning and execution to meet district goals
• Represents the district in key public settings, including school board, city council, and the general assembly
• Liaises with key district stakeholders, including RIDE, City of Providence, School Board, Parent Advisory Council, and District-Wide Advisory Council
• Works closely with Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent of Academics, and Chief of Staff to ensure smooth functioning of cross-departmental/district activities
• In conjunction with the CTO, develops district’s human capital strategy and monitors successful execution
• Reviews HR data with CTO regularly to monitor department progress
• Serves as a key member of negotiating team for key labor contracts
• In conjunction with Finance lead, develops district’s financial strategy and monitors successful execution
• Plans for short and long-term financial health and ensures solvency
• Keeps leadership aware of district financial position
• Engages in initiatives related to finance, including student-based budgeting
• With COO, develops operational strategy and monitors execution across enrollment, technology, transportation, registration, food services, safety, and facilities
• Engages in capital plan development and execution
• Provides supervision and coaching of department heads for HR, Finance, and Operations
• Ensures smooth functioning of cross-department processes such as enrollment and budget projections
• Builds a team with high expectations for quality of work
