Job summary

HP Inc. in San Francisco is seeking an Interactive Design Engineer to bridge creativity, engineering, and design, turning concepts into prototypes and production-ready solutions.

You will collaborate with industrial designers, hardware engineers, and interaction designers to design mechanical parts, create 3D CAD models (NX), run experiments, and validate designs for manufacturability and user experience.

Qualifications

• Recently completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Product Design Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience using 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred) to design mechanical components and assemblies.
• Hands-on experience building, prototyping, and testing mechanical designs.
• Strong understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to open-ended design challenges.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts and present work effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary product development environment.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical parts, components, and assemblies for new consumer devices using 3D CAD (NX).
• Create detailed 2D engineering drawings, define specifications and tolerances, and work closely with overseas vendor partners to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Design and run experiments, applying engineering analysis and test results to guide design decisions.
• Evaluate materials, manufacturing processes, and design tradeoffs to develop robust and scalable solutions.
• Work cross-functionally with hardware, software, industrial design, and other engineering teams to bring concepts from ideation through development.
• Conceptualize, design, and build prototypes that quickly validate ideas.
• Participate in design reviews, clearly communicating design decisions, technical analysis, and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build, test, troubleshoot, and iterate prototypes to identify issues and improve product performance, reliability, and user experience.
• Work with manufacturing and vendor partners to iterate designs and support the transition from prototype to production.
