Job summary

Needham Public Schools is seeking an energetic and skilled Intensive Special Education Instructional Assistant to join the ILC and Post Graduate Program teams at Needham High School in Needham, MA. The role supports students with complex needs through ABA-based strategies across school and community settings.

Under supervision, you will help with instruction, behavior support, data collection, and collaboration with the Special Education team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or at least 2 years experience in a similar role.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Interest in working with children/students with complex disabilities.
• Basic knowledge of child growth and development.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 or small group specialized instruction for students with significant special needs using applied behavior analysis.
• Implement student-specific behavior intervention plans including positive reinforcement and cuing.
• Prevent, minimize, and manage behavioral challenges following district protocols.
• Support students’ integration within a classroom setting through academic, social, and behavioral interventions.
• Implement augmentative communication and assistive technology instruction for non-speaking students.
• Provide life skill instruction including toileting, self-care, and travel training as appropriate.
• Provide pre-vocational training and job coaching for students in school and the community.
• Assist with program data collection to monitor student progress and develop support plans.
• Support students to navigate the school day including non-instructional time.
• Prepare instructional materials for students based on their learning needs.
• Assist with home/school communications and provide regular progress feedback.
