Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file pleadings, including motions, exhibits, and notices through EDIS, and serve opposing counsel.
  • Research and interpret court and agency rules to prepare filings and coordinate deadlines.
  • Coordinate with case teams and e-discovery personnel on data collection, processing, review, and production.
  • Prepare for depositions and maintain witness files.
  • Analyze and summarize documents, discovery responses, and technical material.
  • Conduct factual research and prepare key fact chronologies.
  • Create demonstrative exhibits such as charts, graphs, and maps.
  • Prepare pre-trial documents and motions in limine.
  • Coordinate trial logistics with trial services and other departments.
  • Attend trials and provide substantive support, including monitoring documents, coordinating witnesses, and taking testimony notes.
  • Mentor junior paralegals supporting trial teams.

Overview

An international law firm is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Paralegal specializing in Intellectual Property Litigation, with an emphasis on U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) Section 337 investigations and proceedings, to join its Washington, D.C. office.

The firm represents major corporations, investment funds, and financial institutions in complex transactions and disputes. The environment is collaborative and team-oriented, with a strong emphasis on exceptional client service, initiative, professionalism, responsiveness, adaptability, and excellence.

This position will provide substantive support to attorneys in the Intellectual Property practice, with a particular focus on ITC Section 337 procedures and proceedings.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and file pleadings, including motions, exhibits, and notices through EDIS, and serve opposing counsel.
  • Research and interpret court and agency rules to prepare filings and coordinate with docketing personnel to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local rules and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with case teams and e-discovery personnel on data collection, processing, review, and production.
  • Prepare for depositions and create and maintain witness files.
  • Analyze and summarize documents, discovery responses, and other factual information, including sophisticated or technical material relevant to legal issues.
  • Conduct factual research and prepare key fact chronologies.
  • Create demonstrative exhibits, including charts, graphs, and maps.
  • Prepare pre-trial documents and filings, including exhibit lists, deposition designations, and motions in limine.
  • Serve as a liaison with trial services and other internal departments to coordinate trial logistics.
  • Attend and provide substantive support during trials, including:
    • Monitoring documents and evidence
    • Coordinating witness appearances
    • Preparing and monitoring visual aids
    • Taking notes on testimony
    • Tracking exhibits introduced and admitted into evidence
    • Reviewing and digesting trial transcripts
    • Interacting with clients, witnesses, experts, court personnel, and vendors
    • Mentoring junior paralegals supporting trial teams
Education / Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program preferred.
Professional Experience
  • At least five years of substantive intellectual property litigation experience in a law firm environment preferred.
  • Experience with U.S. International Trade Commission Section 337 investigations and trials required/preferred.

  • Knowledge of Relativity and general database management.
