Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for an Intellectual Property Legal Assistant at our Johnston, IA Global Business Center.

In this role, you will work in conjunction with Intellectual Property (IP) attorneys, agents, and other legal assistants. You will be responsible for maintaining an effective daily workflow and independently managing/coordinating IP administrative services to legal function and business clients. We are seeking candidates who have keen attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to communicate in a concise and informative manner.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.
This role is a hybrid position requiring working in the office Tuesday through Thursday with the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.

Primary Responsibilities - How will you help us Grow!

  • Assist attorney/patent agents, outside counsel, and international agents by preparing requested information to meet IP deadlines.
  • Prepare and file patent documents for both foreign and domestic patent authorities.
  • Initiate appropriate action based on correspondence requests in accordance with established workflow practices and processes.
  • Ensure awareness of upcoming deadlines to ensure proper prioritization of workload.
  • Enter data for all new IP filings and close out completed tasks in the docketing system.
  • Prepare and maintain docket reports for patent attorneys and agents to ensure accurate procedural workflow.
  • Produce other reports as requested.
  • Serve as a resource for practices and procedures.
  • Stay current with knowledge of administrative patent practices and procedures with US and foreign patent offices.
  • Various administrative duties such as travel arrangements, expense reports and scheduling meetings.

Experience and Education – What you'll bring to the table!

Education

  • High School degree is required. AA degree is preferred.

Experience and Competencies

  • 3 years of experience and/or education in an administrative function/course of study. 5 years of experience would be ideal.
  • High level of efficiency, accuracy, flexibility, organization and excellent attention to detail.
  • Well versed in Adobe, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must have good communication skills (verbal and written) including exceptional proofreading, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Highly engaged in your work; able to manage multiple priorities and maintain a quick turn-around of workflow to meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic professional work environment.
  • Excellent analysis of data, judgement, and business acumen.
  • Ability to build relationships with various groups of people and appreciate the value of working in a team environment.
  • Able to work independently when necessary.
  • Champion innovation, work to continuously improve processes and readily adapt to change.

Additional skills/experience (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with Symphony, Patricia or similar docketing software.
  • Experience with Netdocuments or similar document management system.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with U.S. patent procedural requirements (USPTO), international patent office (WIPO) practices.
  • Previous administrative experience in a legal setting.
