Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP, a midsize Chicago Loop law firm, seeks a Docket Clerk for its Intellectual Property practice group. You will review incoming correspondence, docket deadlines, and enter patent/trademark matter data using the docket system.

The role requires 3+ years docketing experience, knowledge of USPTO procedures, and proficiency with FoundationIP and MS Office. You will generate reports, assist with intake, and support the IP Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
  • 3+ years docketing experience in patent/trademark matters.
  • Knowledge of USPTO procedures and international offices.
  • Experience with FoundationIP or similar docket systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review incoming correspondence to determine docket deadlines.
  • Review generated correspondence to enter or clear deadlines in the docket system.
  • Download and docket electronic correspondence from USPTO for patent/trademark matters.
  • Check daily deadlines and send email reminders to attorneys and paralegals.
  • Enter new patent/trademark applications into the docket system using USPTO and other sources.
  • Generate due date reports as required by attorneys, paralegals or clients.
  • Assist with intake of new matters as required.
  • Assist IP Manager with other docketing duties as needed.

Job description

Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP is a midsize Chicago Loop law firm in search of a Docket Clerk for their Intellectual Property practice group.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review incoming correspondence to determine whether deadlines should be entered in the docket system
  • Review NGE generated correspondence to determine whether deadlines should be entered or cleared from the docket system
  • Download and docket electronic correspondence from USPTO for patent and trademark matters
  • Check daily deadlines and send email reminders to responsible attorneys and paralegals to ensure all deadlines have been satisfied by the close of business and, if not, contact appropriate attorney/paralegal
  • Enter new patent/trademark applications into the docket system and utilize USPTO website, Foreign Patent/Trademark Office website and/or documents within files to capture relevant information
  • Generate due date reports as required by attorneys, paralegals or clients
  • Assist with intake of new matters as required
  • Assist IP Manager with other docketing related duties as needed
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential
  • College degree preferred
  • 3+ years previous patent/trademark/general matter docketing experience
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices of the US Patent and Trademark Office and international patent and trademark offices
  • Experience with FoundationIP (FIP) docket system preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties to meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills a must
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with attorneys, paralegals and staff
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to learnAbility to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 per year. Actual pay will be based on experience, education, job-related knowledge, market indicators and internal pay equity.
