Job Responsibilities

• Gathering, collecting, and assessing intelligence related to security threats.
• Surveillance of designated groups.
• Monitor and identify inmates who are seen associating with gang members.
• Interview and photograph all new arrivals.
• Complete paperwork/packets on inmates suspected of gang activity.
• Assist contraband staff in searching cells of suspected gang members.
• Monitor inmate phone calls.
• Complete all other tasks assigned by the statewide STG, coordinator, assistant coordinator, or STG analyst.

Must successfully complete an eight-week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma and experience in correctional, security, or police work.

SCDC Minimum Requirements (or acceptable equivalency):

• Must be a US citizen, age 18 or over, with a valid driver's license.
• Must not have offensive, gang-related tattoos, or tattoos on the face or head; tattoos on the neck evaluated case-by-case.
• Cannot have been convicted of a crime with a maximum sentence of one year or more, or a fine of $1,000 or more.
• Must pass a physical exam administered by SCDC.
• Must complete the correctional officer basic certification course within six months of placement.
