Our client is a growing logistics technology company that manages the most complex stretch of the import supply chain: everything that happens between the port and the distribution center. Its platform coordinates ports, railroads, drayage carriers, chassis providers and warehouses on behalf of some of the country's largest shippers.
About the role
We're looking for an Integration Engineer who loves building things from the ground up. You'll design and ship the integrations that connect the platform to customers, carriers, terminals and trading partners, then own them in production.
This is a hands-on backend role on a small team, with real ownership and a lot of direct contact with customers. If you enjoy solving hard data movement problems and can explain your work just as clearly to a trading partner as to another engineer, this role is a strong fit.
What you'll do
- Design, build and deploy new customer, carrier and partner integrations from scratch using Python and Azure Functions.
- Build inbound and outbound data flows across EDI, REST APIs, SFTP, email and Azure Service Bus.
- Make integrations resilient with solid retry logic, idempotent processing, deduplication and dead-letter handling, so business-critical shipment data arrives accurately every time.
- Work directly with customers and trading partners to gather requirements, troubleshoot data issues and onboard new connections. This is roughly 20% to 60% of the job, depending on the week.
- Own your integrations in production, including monitoring, alerting, root cause analysis and a shared on-call rotation.
- Migrate legacy integrations onto the modern platform and help shape where its architecture goes next.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, product and business analysts in an agile team.
What you bring
- 5+ years of professional experience building enterprise integrations or backend systems, including integrations you designed and shipped from scratch.
- Strong Python and SQL skills.
- Hands-on experience building cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure. Strong AWS backgrounds (Lambda, SQS, EventBridge) will also be considered.
- Working knowledge of EDI and how it flows between trading partners, along with experience integrating REST APIs using JSON and XML.
- Experience with messaging and event-driven architectures, and a solid understanding of fault tolerance, partial failures and data reconciliation.
- Excellent written and spoken communication, and confidence leading technical conversations with customers and partners.
- The ability to work independently and get up to speed quickly in an established environment.
Nice to have
- Experience in logistics, freight, 3PL, supply chain or intermodal.
- Familiarity with logistics EDI transactions such as the 204, 214, 210 and 990.
- Experience with Boomi or other iPaaS platforms.
- Exposure to Databricks or Apache Spark.
- Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep or ARM).
Why this role
- Fully remote. There's no office mandate and no return-to-office surprises.
- Real ownership. You'll build new integrations and see your work move freight across the country, instead of maintaining someone else's tickets.
- A small, supportive team. You'll work with experienced, down-to-earth engineers who will get you up to speed on the logistics side.
- Hard, interesting problems. You'll work on high-volume, business-critical data flowing between dozens of partners.
