About Information Technology @ Cornell

Information Technology (IT) is a strategic enabler for many functions at Cornell University, with staff located across colleges, administrative units, and campuses throughout the institution. While comprised of many organizations, IT operates as one partnering closely with faculty, staff, and students to support teaching, research, and business operations. By being embedded where the Cornell community is, IT is well positioned to provide support ranging from day‑to‑day needs to large, complex initiatives that advance major academic, research, and operational objectives across the university. What will you do:

The Integration Developer (CEMI) is responsible for the operational support, maintenance, and enhancement of the institution’s existing Boomi integration portfolio, as well as the design and development of new integrations supporting enterprise system implementations and ongoing business initiatives. This role plays a critical part in ensuring reliable, efficient, and scalable data exchanges across systems.

Working in a collaborative environment, the Integration Developer partners with business stakeholders, IT colleagues, and external vendors to translate functional requirements into technical integration solutions. The position requires demonstrated experience in integration and API development, including the ability to independently design, build, test, and deploy complex integrations using Boomi or comparable integration platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) technologies.

The incumbent is expected to operate with minimal supervision, proactively manage multiple concurrent projects, and ensure the availability and performance of integration services. Success in this role requires strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non‑technical audiences.

The Integration Developer must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and adaptability, including the ability to quickly adopt new tools, technologies, and best practices. The role also requires strong customer service orientation, organizational capability, and the ability to function effectively in a higher education environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines.

Technical proficiency in programming and scripting, relational databases (SQL), web services (SOAP/REST), and data formats such as JSON and XML is essential. Experience with languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, and procedural SQL (e.g., PL/SQL), as well as familiarity with project management and business analysis methodologies, is considered advantageous.

This is a two (2) year term appointment which may be ended or extended based on organizational needs, funding availability, and performance.

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, and 2–4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, deploying, and supporting integrations using the Boomi platform.
  • Experience designing and implementing integrations between large enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft, Workday, and Salesforce.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in integration and API development, including working with web services (SOAP/REST), and data formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Experience with one or more programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, C++, JavaScript, APEX) and web technologies (HTML, CSS).
  • Ability to design, execute, and support unit testing and user acceptance testing processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Ability to learn and apply software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and operational support best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and proactively communicate status updates to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment using project management methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure while managing competing priorities and urgent interruptions with professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex environments.
  • Certified Boomi Developer certification.
  • Familiarity with other integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Informatica, Azure Integration Services).
