Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and caregivers and ensure a positive admission experience.
  • Collect, verify, and input medical, insurance, and demographic information.
  • Explain and complete admission paperwork with required signatures.
  • Register patients and manage documents using the Cerner system.
  • Conduct safety checks and belongings searches as needed.
  • Handle patient interactions in crisis situations calmly and professionally.
  • Facilitate unscheduled admissions and scheduling with Patient Access.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on clinical criteria, documentation, and treatment issues.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Explain insurance coverage to patients and address inquiries.
  • Provide clear documentation of cases requiring special attention.
  • Participate in on‑call, weekend, and holiday coverage as scheduled.

Role Overview

The Intake Specialist serves as a patient advocate and first point of contact for all patients and families seeking services. The role facilitates admission processes, collaborates with physicians, providers, and multidisciplinary teams, and contributes to the high‑quality care Rogers is known for.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome patients and caregivers and ensure a positive, seamless admission experience.
  • Collect, verify, and accurately input medical, insurance, and demographic information.
  • Explain and complete admission paperwork, obtaining required signatures such as patient rights and consent forms.
  • Register patients and manage documents using the Cerner system.
  • Conduct safety checks and perform belongings searches as needed.
  • Manage patient interactions in crisis situations, maintaining a calm and welcoming environment.
  • Facilitate unscheduled admissions, including screenings and scheduling in collaboration with Patient Access.
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary teams to address clinical criteria, documentation, and treatment issues.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Explain insurance coverage to patients and address related inquiries.
  • Provide clear documentation and communicate cases requiring special attention.
  • Participate in on‑call, weekend, and holiday coverage as scheduled.
Qualifications
  • Professional demeanor and adherence to hospital policies.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and willingness to participate in training.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Recent college graduates strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Computer skills required, including word processing.
  • Previous experience in insurance, billing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in mental health preferred.
Schedule
  • NOC – Week1: Monday‑Wednesday 11pm‑7:30am.
  • Week2: Saturday‑Wednesday 11pm‑7:30am (64 hours biweekly).
