Job summary

McAlister Institute is seeking an Intake Specialist to be the first contact for clients entering our programs in San Diego. Reporting to the Program Manager, you will coordinate intake, provide admin support, and guide clients to appropriate care levels.

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, and knowledgeable about substance use services, with a preference for bilingual English/Spanish speakers.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of administrative/clerical experience.
• Certified or registered (CAADE, CADTP, or equivalent) required.
• Bachelor's degree in human services preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Pass pre-employment screening including background check and drug test.
• On-site position with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and promote the mission, philosophy, values, and direction of McAlister Institute.
• Provide accurate information to all inquiries and respond courteously.
• Conduct ASAM screenings by phone to assess level of care.
• Offer referrals and warm hand-offs for those not meeting criteria.
• Schedule intake appointments and manage intake calendar.
• Complete intake documentation accurately and on time.
• Collaborate with LPHA to communicate clinical information face-to-face.
• Perform other duties as needed.

The Intake Specialist is a critical first point of contact for clients entering services at our programs. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, this position provides intake coordination, administrative support, and ensure clients are guided into the appropriate level of care. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct brief ASAM screenings by phone to assess the appropriate level of care.
• Offer referrals and warm hand-offs for individuals not meeting the program’s level of care criteria.
• Schedule intake appointments and manage intake calendar.
• Complete all intake documentation and paperwork accurately and on time.
• Collaborate with LPHA to communicate accurate clinical information face-to-face.

Requirements

• Minium of two years of administrative/clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare or social services setting.
• Certified or Registered (CAADE, CADTP, or equivalent required).
• Bachelor's degree in human services field preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Compliance with all agency and contract requirements related to trainings, public health, certifications, and reporting.
• Ability to pass all pre-employment screening, including references, education verification, a criminal background check with at least one year clear of probation or parole, a drug test, and a negative TB test.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• On-site position.
