Job summary

McAlister Institute in San Diego is seeking an Intake Specialist to be a critical first point of contact for clients entering services. Reporting to the Program Manager, the role includes intake coordination, administrative support, and ensuring clients are guided into the appropriate level of care.

Ideal candidates are organized, compassionate, and knowledgeable about substance use services. The position is on-site, with requirements including minimum two years in administrative roles,

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of administrative/clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare or social services setting.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Compliance with all agency and contract requirements related to trainings, public health, certifications, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and promote the mission, philosophy, values, and direction of McAlister Institute.
  • Provide accurate, detailed information to all phone inquiries in a courteous manner.
  • Conduct brief ASAM screenings by phone to assess the appropriate level of care.
  • Offer referrals and warm hand-offs for individuals not meeting the program’s level of care criteria.
  • Schedule intake appointments and manage intake calendar.
  • Complete all intake documentation and paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with LPHA to communicate accurate clinical information face-to-face.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Reporting directly to the Program Manager, this position provides intake coordination, administrative support, and ensure clients are guided into the appropriate level of care. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, compassionate, and knowledgeable about substance use services.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements
  • Minium of two years of administrative/clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare or social services setting.
  • Certified or Registered (CAADE, CADTP, or equivalent required).
  • Bachelor's degree in human services field preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Compliance with all agency and contract requirements related to trainings, public health, certifications, and reporting.
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment screening, including references, education verification, a criminal background check with at least one year clear of probation or parole, a drug test, and a negative TB test.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • On-site position.

Pre-Employment

A pre-employment physical examination, and post-offer background check is required. Candidates must have at least one year clear of probation or parole, a drug test, and a negative TB test.
