Job summary

Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas – Garland, TX is seeking an Intake Registered Nurse (RN) to manage inbound calls, coordinate referrals, and support patient placement in a fast-paced behavioral health setting.

The Intake RN collaborates with leadership, conducts clinical assessments, and ensures timely communications with physicians and treatment teams while maintaining high standards of patient care and documentation.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Texas (required).
• Experience in behavioral health assessment and/or treatment.
• Minimum of one year experience in an acute behavioral health setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive inbound referral calls, gather demographics, route or schedule assessments.
• Process requests for information and manage external referrals.
• Complete pre-certifications as required.
• Coordinate patient admissions, including physician and department communication.
• Initiate insurance verification and collaborate with business office.
• Determine and process Releases of Information (ROI) per policy.
• Assist in obtaining medical records and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate patient disposition and community resource planning.
• Communicate with Treatment Coordinators and interdisciplinary teams.
• Maintain call logs, statistics, and outcome data reporting.
• Support utilization review and cross-department collaboration.
• Deliver excellent customer service and maintain professional relationships.
• Conduct patient assessments and contribute to diagnostic evaluations.
• Provide direct patient care and treatment interventions (approx. 85%).
• Complete clinical documentation and participate in supervision.
• Work with adult and senior populations with age-appropriate assessment techniques.

Position Summary
The Intake Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the admissions process, managing inbound calls, coordinating referrals, and ensuring timely patient placement. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with urgency in a fast-paced environment. The Intake RN also collaborates with leadership to support departmental goals and process improvements.

Essential Responsibilities

• Receive referral calls, gather demographic information, and route or schedule assessments appropriately
• Process requests for information and manage external referrals
• Complete pre-certifications as required
• Coordinate patient admissions, including communication with physicians and internal departments
• Initiate insurance verification and collaborate with the business office

• Communicate effectively with Treatment Coordinators and interdisciplinary teams

Clinical Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessments and contribute to diagnostic evaluations
• Provide direct patient care, including assessment and treatment interventions (approximately 85% of role)
• Complete clinical documentation and participate in supervision activities
• Work with adult and senior populations, demonstrating knowledge of common diagnoses and age-specific assessment techniques

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas (required)
• Experience in behavioral health assessment and/or treatment
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute behavioral health setting preferred
