Job summary

EarthOptics is hiring a Production Technician - Intake for our Emeryville, CA office and lab. The role logs and routes soil samples, maintains intake systems, and supports downstream processing. This is a part-time, on-site position at 30 hours per week with potential conversion to regular based on performance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 1+ years in manufacturing, production, or similar fast-paced environment.
• Ability to follow sample receiving, labeling, documentation, and routing procedures with traceability.
• Strong attention to detail and organization in a fast-paced setting.
• Identify and elevate sample discrepancies (damaged, mislabeled, nonconforming).
• Basic computer skills and experience with barcode scanners, label printers, and data entry.
• Strong communication and teamwork; able to work independently when needed.
• Safely operate lab equipment and follow quality, safety, and regulatory procedures.
• Comfort handling dusty soil samples and protective PPE provided.

Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, organize, and log incoming soil samples into the laboratory information system.
• Sort, label, and route samples to processing workflows with traceability.
• Identify and resolve routine discrepancies; escalate complex issues.
• Operate and maintain intake equipment, workspaces, and supplies per safety and quality standards.
• Maintain an orderly intake queue and prioritize samples by operational needs.
• Support downstream soil processing activities (drying, homogenization, subsampling, labeling, storage).
• Support other laboratory and production activities as needed.
