Job summary

Canyon Creek Behavioral Health, a 102-bed psychiatric hospital in Temple, Texas, seeks an Intake Counselor - PRN to interview and assess potential patients and inquiry callers under the supervision of the Director of Admissions.

In this role you will collaborate with the Business Office on patient financial data, work with the UR Department to certify admissions, and initiate referrals as indicated. Flexibility with hours and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related mental health field required.
  • 2–3 years in substance abuse or psychiatric treatment programs.
  • State certification in social work or clinical mental health field (LCSW/LMSW/LPC) required.
  • CPR, Handle with Care and Verbal De-Escalation training within 30 days of employment.

Position Summary

The Intake Counselor - PRN, under the supervision of the Director of Admissions, interviews and assesses potential patients and inquiry callers. The Intake Counselor works with the Business Office regarding patient financial data, as well as with the UR Department for the certification of patients admitted. Also initiates the referral process when indicated, and communicates with referral sources.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, health care team members and community providers.
  • Assess and identify developmental and behavioral functioning of the patient. Document patient responses.
  • Effectively employ principles of communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving and crisis intervention when performing intake assessments.
Qualifications

Education: Master\'s Degree from an accredited college or university, in Social Work or a clinical related mental health field required.

Experience: Minimum of two (2)-(3) years in the area of substance abuse/psychiatric treatment programs, Preferred: Experience in intake/admissions and managed care.

License: Must be state certified in social work or clinical related mental health field. LPC, LMSW, or LCSW, LFMT license required.

Additional Requirements: CPR certification, Handle with Care and Verbal De-Escalation training within 30 days of employment prior to assisting in a restraining procedure. Training will be offered during new hire orientation. May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.
