Phillips Law Group, P.C. |Phoenix, Arizona
About Phillips Law Group
Phillips Law Group is one of the largest consumer-side law firms in the Southwest, with a national and international footprint and a practice spanning personal injury, rideshare abuse litigation, mass torts, and complex claims. For decades, we have fought for injured people — and we have built the infrastructure to do it at scale.
The Opportunity
We are hiring an Intake Attorney to sit at the decision point of our intake operation. This is an incredible opportunity for the right lawyer: you will evaluate more prospective cases in a month than many attorneys see in years, sharpen your case-valuation instincts across three high-stakes practice areas, and operate inside one of the most sophisticated high-volume intake organizations in the plaintiffs' bar.
You will be the legal authority within a large, fast-moving intake team — making sign/decline decisions, setting screening criteria, resolving close calls, and ensuring that the 1,000+ cases we retain each month are the right cases, retained the right way.
This is not a document-review seat and it is not a traditional litigation role. It is a high-judgment, high-throughput position for an attorney who thrives on decision-making, loves working with people, and wants a direct hand in the growth of a major plaintiffs' firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Case evaluation and sign-off — Review prospective personal injury, rideshare abuse, and mass tort matters escalated by intake specialists; make timely retain/decline decisions based on liability, damages, coverage, venue, and firm criteria.
- Screening criteria and playbooks — Own and continuously refine intake criteria, qualification scripts, and escalation rules for each practice area, in coordination with litigation leadership and mass tort campaign requirements.
- Complex and sensitive intakes — Personally handle high-value, legally complex, or sensitive matters — including rideshare abuse and sex abuse claimants — with the care, discretion, and trauma-informed approach these clients deserve.
- Team support and training — Serve as the go-to legal resource for a 60+ person global intake team; train non-attorney intake staff on legal issues, statutes of limitation, ethical boundaries, and the unauthorized practice of law.
- Statute of limitations and deadline protection — Ensure SOL dates are correctly identified and calendared at intake for every retained matter across all relevant jurisdictions.
- Retainer and compliance oversight — Oversee proper execution of fee agreements, HIPAA authorizations, and disclosures; ensure intake practices comply with applicable ethics rules across jurisdictions.
- Quality and conversion analytics — Partner with intake management to monitor retention rates, decline reasons, lead-source quality, and case outcomes — feeding data back into marketing and screening decisions.
- Cross-department coordination — Work closely with litigation teams, mass tort leadership, and marketing to align intake criteria with active campaigns, docket capacity, and firm strategy.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state, in good standing.
- 2+ years of experience in personal injury, mass torts, or a related plaintiffs'-side practice (intake, pre-litigation, or litigation).
- Strong command of liability and damages analysis, insurance coverage fundamentals, and statute-of-limitations issues.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound, fast decisions at volume without sacrificing quality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills — comfortable speaking with injured and traumatized prospective clients with empathy and professionalism.
- Comfort working with intake platforms, CRMs, and data dashboards in a metrics-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a high-volume intake or case-acquisition environment (500+ cases/month).
- Experience with mass tort campaign criteria and multi-jurisdiction screening.
- Experience handling sensitive claims (sexual abuse, assault, or similar) with trauma-informed practices.
- Arizona license, or willingness to obtain admission.
- Spanish fluency or experience managing multilingual intake operations.
- Experience training or supervising distributed/remote teams across time zones.
Why This Role, Why Now
- Scale you won't find elsewhere — 1,000+ retained cases per month means unmatched reps, pattern recognition, and professional growth.
- A firm in a serious growth posture — Expanding practice lines, national reach, and capital-backed growth create real advancement paths for attorneys who perform.
- Real authority — Your decisions directly shape the firm's docket and its future revenue.
- A world-class team — Work alongside a large, talented, globally distributed intake organization and experienced litigation leadership.
Performance bonuses: Eligible for performance-based bonuses in addition to base salary.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) with firm contribution.
- Paid time off and firm holidays.
- CLE support and bar dues.
