Job summary

BrighterFutures.Life seeks an Intake Specialist to assess families for the Housing Assistance Program. The role requires judgment, boundaries, and balancing compassion with responsible stewardship of resources.

Intake duties will gradually transition from the Director while maintaining a small caseload. Responsibilities include conducting initial interviews, background and financial checks, comprehensive family assessments, and documenting recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or related field preferred.
• Five+ years of professional experience in social work, housing stability, or related field required; 5–10 years preferred.
• Strong interviewing, assessment, documentation, and case-management skills.
• Ability to maintain boundaries with families while showing compassion.
• Ability to handle difficult emotional situations professionally.
• Spanish language skills a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial interviews to determine fit and invite for application or decline.
• Order criminal background, credit, and social media checks as part of intake.
• Conduct comprehensive family assessments of housing, finances, needs, and readiness.
• Provide professional intake recommendations; inform Director of decisions after review.
• Maintain documentation of intake assessments and recommendations.
• Manage a limited caseload and provide guidance to volunteers and staff.
• Coordinate with Housing Assistance and Volunteer staff for smooth transitions.
• Document progress, challenges, and outcomes in the system.
