Job summary

Brentwood Hospital in Louisiana is seeking an Admissions Nurse - RN to join a team dedicated to improving mental health. You will conduct risk assessments, coordinate intake, and facilitate admissions while maintaining communication with referrals, families, and unit staff.

Shifts include weekend and overnight hours, with a focus on safe, nurturing patient care and coordination of level of care across the admission process. Brentwood Hospital is a 260-bed facility serving children to seniors.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
• Experience with intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention for psychiatric patients.
• Current Louisiana RN license.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention, risk assessment, and psychiatric symptomatology.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial medical screening.
• Perform admission assessments.
• Assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations.
• Medical screenings by phone for transfers from other facilities.
• Obtain and document pre-certification on admissions as needed.
• Basic medical triage: skin checks, wounds, etc.

The Registered Nurse Assessment and Referral Counselor provides telephonic and in-person risk assessment and crisis intervention, initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, determines appropriate level of care, facilitates the admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients and unit staff.

Qualifications

Education: Associatesor Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Experience: Prior intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with a psychiatric mental health population, preferablein an inpatient setting.

Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed to practice by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomatology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis behavior management.
