Job summary

Apalachee Center, Inc. in Tallahassee, FL is seeking an Insurance Verification Clerk to join our behavioral health team.

The primary duty is confirming clients’ eligibility, benefits, and coverage, and communicating with payers, providers, patients, and insurance companies. You will obtain copay and deductible amounts, enter details into the EMR, coordinate with program staff, and help resolve questions promptly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of verifying insurances in a medical office or hospital.
• Excellent telephone/customer relations skills and computer experience.

Responsibilities

• Verify clients’ eligibility, benefits, and insurance coverage for behavioral health services using portals and by calling plans.
• Obtain copay and deductible amounts and enter information in the EMR system.
• Act as a liaison between patients, program staff, and insurance carriers to ensure data accuracy.
• Answer patient and insurance company inquiries promptly and clearly.
• Resolve patient questions timely by using available resources.
• Assist in reviewing aged receivables and follow-up/adjustments as needed.
• Assist in training new employees on verifying insurances.

Overview:

Primary role will be insurance verification, communicating with payers/providers, program staff, patients, and insurance companies.

ESSENTIAL/CORE JOB-SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for verifying clients’ eligibility, benefits, and insurance coverage for behavioral health services by using the various insurance web portals and clearinghouses and by calling the plans.
• Responsible for obtaining copay and deductible amounts and entering the information in the EMR system.
• Responsible for acting as a liaison between patients, program staff, and insurance carriers to ensure all information is collected and is correct.
• Responsible for answering patient and insurance company inquiries.
• Ensures all patient questions are answered and issues are resolved timely by utilizing the appropriate resources.
• Assist with reviewing aged receivables report and completing follow-up and adjustments as needed.
• Assists in training new employees on verifying insurances.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director.
