Job summary

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is seeking an Insurance Specialist II to support patient verification, pre-certification, and insurance benefits coordination. The role requires thorough knowledge of EPIC workflows, accurate data entry, and strong customer service to assist patients and physician offices.

Responsibilities include verifying coverage, obtaining pre-certifications, and communicating with insurers.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years of benefit verification/authorization experience or equivalent and 1 year customer service experience.
• 3 years in clinical/medical/pre-certification/authorization/verification and 4 years end user desktop tools experience including Outlook/Word, and EPIC experience.

Responsibilities

• Monitors patient work queue to identify accounts needing verification.
• Coordinate with physician offices/ancillary departments for pre-certification and benefits.
• Pre-registers patient cases with complete and accurate information prior to arrival.
• Enter and verify intake, eligibility and pre-certification data per standards.
• Verify insurance information using websites or insurer contacts.
• Provide cost estimates to patients for scheduled appointments.
• Ensure exams are scheduled with proper patient class and coding nomenclature.
• Process and track authorizations within required timelines and guidelines.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant privacy and security of patient information.
• Counsel offices/patients on out-of-network situations and coordinate with other departments as needed.
• Maintain documentation and data entry accuracy in EPIC/ADTs.
