Job summary

Saint Joseph Hospital - Elgin is seeking an Insurance Verification Specialist to verify eligibility with payers and guide patients on coverage and financial responsibilities. You will coordinate pre-service payments and create estimates, while handling inquiries and maintaining EMR documentation.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to work in a demanding hospital admissions/billing environment. Full-time, days shift with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years’ experience in hospital admissions or billing preferred.
• Well versed in authorization processes for all payers.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance policies.
• Excellent organization and time management skills along with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to learn quickly, work independently and collaborative within a team environment.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships.
• Demonstrates attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Ability to work in a demanding environment.
• Problem solving skills.
• Proficient computer skills.
• High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required.

Responsibilities

• Contact health plan carriers to obtain eligibility information and verify accurate data in the patient account.
• Assist patients in understanding their insurance coverage and financial responsibilities.
• Coordinate payment for all scheduled/elective services prior to services rendered per payer specs.
• Collect payments, discuss payment arrangements, create estimates, and advise patients on benefits.
• Provide excellent customer service regarding insurance inquiries.
• Manage insurance related queries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare reports on insurance verification activities and outcomes for management.
• Problem solve insurance errors and research payer requirements.
• Gather information required to process financial assistance requests.
• Document all communication and follow up in the EMR.
• Pursue education opportunities to stay current with payer changes in healthcare.
