Job summary

Nassau Financial Group, based in Hartford, CT, seeks an in-house counsel to support the Legal Department across insurance, retirement, and investment management products. The role emphasizes claims, litigation, and regulatory matters with growth opportunities in financial services.

The attorney will work with compliance, product, IT, and operations teams to assess risk and provide practical guidance, reporting to the Legal Department.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in life insurance or financial services.
• Admission to the Connecticut Bar is required.
• Experience in insurance law, financial services regulation, or litigation is required.

Responsibilities

• Support all phases of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including claims disputes, consumer complaints, and regulatory inquiries.
• Assist in managing outside counsel, tracking case developments, and supporting litigation strategy and reporting.
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, pleadings, discovery materials, and responses related to litigation and regulatory matters.
• Partner with compliance and fraud teams to investigate and respond to suspected fraud, policyholder disputes, and regulatory issues.
• Analyze legal and regulatory risks associated with insurance products, distribution channels, and business initiatives.
• Monitor and summarize developments in insurance laws, regulations, and litigation trends impacting the business.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, product, compliance, and operations teams to mitigate legal risk.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
