Job summary

Travelers is expanding its Claim Legal Staff Counsel office in Las Vegas, offering a lawyer role focused on insurance defense, high-quality case handling, and proactive litigation strategy. The attorney will handle a caseload from inception through trial, with opportunities to collaborate with partners and clients.

The position requires a JD, active state license, and 2+ years of defense litigation experience, with strong writing and advocacy skills. Local travel to court is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international law degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required.
• 2+ years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motions, depositions or other court proceedings and may transport to those meetings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply effective litigation skills to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolution.
• Conduct legal research and demonstrate strong legal writing and presentation skills.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other documents.
• Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments independently.
• Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners on file handling strategies.
• Build and maintain strong internal and external client and business partner relationships.
• Provide advice and training to Claim partners and clients.
• Fully utilize available technology and case management systems; travel as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
