Job summary

Progressive Insurance in the United States is seeking an experienced insurance defense attorney for our bodily injury unit. You will provide legal representation to Progressive insureds and the company before courts and arbitration panels, handling cases from filing to resolution and negotiating settlements.

This hybrid role requires admission to the California bar and a JD or LLM. You will prepare pleadings, motions, trial briefs, and participate in reports with claims partners while

• Provide legal representation to Progressive insureds and the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels.

• Work closely with clients and claims partners to prepare timely litigation reports and assess defenses to reach positive outcomes.
• Analyze discovery, depositions, medical records and determine risk exposure.

As an insurance defense attorney within our bodily injury (BI) unit, you’ll be a part of our motor vehicle insurance defense litigation team, providing legal representation to Progressive insureds and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. Handling cases from beginning to end, you’ll also prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs and be involved in negotiating settlements. Additionally, you’ll work closely with clients and claims partners to prepare timely reports on litigation, ensuring all appropriate defenses are leveraged to reach positive outcomes. Other tasks will include analyzing written discovery, depositions, medical records and assessing the value of claims to determine risk exposure.

This is a hybrid position. In-person attendance is generally limited to litigation-related events, with occasional travel required for training sessions, team meetings, and other business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM)
• Admitted to practice law in the state of California

Compensation

• Attorney I: $108,654 - $130,200/year
• Attorney II: $147,056 - $176,300/year
• Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 30% or 40% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
• Bonus of up to $15,000 payable after 90 calendar days of actively being employed at Progressive
