Job summary

Progressive is seeking an insurance defense attorney within our Bodily Injury litigation team to represent Progressive insureds and the Progressive Insurance Companies in courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. You will handle cases from start to finish, prepare pleadings, motions and trial briefs, and negotiate settlements.

You will work closely with clients and claims partners to prepare timely reports and to leverage defenses to reach positive outcomes.

Qualifications

• JD or LLM required for admission to practice law in Wisconsin.
• Experience representing clients in bodily injury and motor vehicle defense litigation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle cases from filing through disposition, including pleadings and motions.
• Prepare trial briefs and negotiate settlements with opposing counsel.
• Analyze discovery, depositions, and medical records to assess claim value and risk exposure.
• Collaborate with clients and claims partners; provide timely litigation reports.

As an insurance defense attorney within our Bodily Injury litigation team, you’ll be a part of our motor vehicle insurance defense litigation team, providing legal representation to Progressive insureds and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. Handling cases from beginning to end, you’ll also prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs and be involved in negotiating settlements. Additionally, you’ll work closely with clients and claims partners to prepare timely reports on litigation, ensuring all appropriate defenses are leveraged to reach positive outcomes. Other tasks will include analyzing written discovery, depositions, medical records and assessing the value of claims to determine risk exposure.

This is a hybrid position. In person attendance is generally limited to litigation related events, with occasional travel required for training sessions, team meetings, and other business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM)
• Admitted to practice law in the state of Wisconsin.

Compensation

• $98,735 - $108,500/year
• Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 30% of your eligible earnings, based on company performance
• Bonus of up to $10,000 (pending position level) payable after 90 calendar days of actively being employed at Progressive.
