Job summary

Progressive Insurance is seeking an insurance defense attorney in the Bodily Injury (BI) unit in Texas. You will provide legal representation to Progressive insureds and the company in all stages of litigation, prepare pleadings, motions, statements, and trial briefs, and negotiate settlements.

You’ll collaborate with claims partners to report on litigation and apply defenses to achieve favorable outcomes. This hybrid role requires a Juris Doctor or LLM and admission to the Texas bar.

Qualifications

• Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM) required.
• Admitted to practice law in Texas.

Responsibilities

• Handle cases from start to finish in the Bodily Injury unit for Progressive insureds and company.
• Prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, and trial briefs; negotiate settlements.
• Work with clients and claims partners to prepare timely litigation reports and leverage defenses to reach positive outcomes.
• Analyze written discovery, depositions, medical records and assess claim value to determine risk exposure.

As an insurance defense attorney within our bodily injury (BI) unit, you’ll be a part of our motor vehicle insurance defense litigation team, providing legal representation to Progressive insureds and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. Handling cases from beginning to end, you’ll also prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs and be involved in negotiating settlements. Additionally, you’ll work closely with clients and claims partners to prepare timely reports on litigation, ensuring all appropriate defenses are leveraged to reach positive outcomes. Other tasks will include analyzing written discovery, depositions, medical records and assessing the value of claims to determine risk exposure.

This is a hybrid position. In-person attendance is generally limited to litigation-related events, with occasional travel required for training sessions, team meetings, and other business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM)
• Admitted to practice law in the state of Texas

Compensation

• $98,735 - $108,500/year
• Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 30% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
• Bonus of up to $10,000 payable after 90 calendar days of actively being employed at Progressive
