Christian & Small LLP seeks an experienced Insurance Coverage Associate Attorney to join our Birmingham, AL office. The attorney will handle coverage opinions, defend insurers in disputes, and collaborate with the broader litigation team on insurance-related matters.

The role requires a J.D. from an accredited law school, active Alabama State Bar status or eligibility for prompt admission, and 2+ years of relevant civil litigation focusing on insurance coverage.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of civil litigation experience with focus on insurance coverage work.
• Experience drafting coverage opinions and litigating coverage disputes.
• Excellent writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines.
• Strong collaboration in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and provide coverage opinions on various insurance policies (CGL, professional liability, property, excess/umbrella).
• Handle insurance coverage litigation, including declaratory judgment actions and bad faith claims.
• Defend and advise insurers in complex coverage matters.
• Collaborate with the litigation team on insurance-related defense and commercial matters.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, briefs, and coverage correspondence.
• Conduct depositions, prepare witnesses, and support trials/arbitrations.
• Provide strategic counseling to clients on risk management and coverage issues.
