Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking an experienced attorney licensed in California to advise sophisticated clients on complex commercial and personal lines insurance coverage matters, including coverage opinions and litigation strategy across multiple jurisdictions.

This hybrid role offers three days per week in the office and two remote days, a strong compensation package with quarterly bonuses, and the chance to develop a portable book of business within a collaborative team at a respected boutique

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an ABA- or California-accredited law school.
• Active California Bar license in good standing.
• Experience with insurance coverage analysis and policy interpretation.
• Experience drafting insurance coverage opinions or coverage position letters.
• Commercial and/or personal lines insurance coverage experience.
• Insurance coverage litigation or related civil litigation experience.
• Strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Portable book of business is highly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Advise sophisticated clients on complex commercial and personal lines insurance coverage matters.
• Work on challenging coverage disputes spanning multiple jurisdictions and a diverse range of underlying claims.
• Combine high-level coverage analysis with opportunities to handle insurance coverage litigation.
• Represent insurers and other clients in insurance coverage litigation.
• Manage coverage matters through pleadings, discovery, motion practice, mediation, trial, and appeal as applicable.
• Handle coverage disputes involving construction defect, product liability, employment, landlord-tenant, intellectual property, entertainment, and other complex claims.
• Communicate legal analyses and strategic recommendations clearly to clients.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships with insurers and other sophisticated clients.
• Collaborate with attorneys and staff while managing multiple matters and deadlines.
• Maintain accurate billable and non-billable time records while meeting annual billable-hour expectations.
