Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years in customer service, insurance verification, authorization and insurance billing.
• Experience with medical claims processing and insurance terminology.
• Proficient with Windows PC applications, including Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient balance estimates, collect payments and verify insurance coverage for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
• Answer calls, voicemail, email and fax inquiries with excellent customer service.
• Explain insurance coverage and benefits to patients as needed.
• Contact patients regarding inactive coverage to obtain updated information or referrals.
• Initiate, submit and obtain prior authorizations.
• Keep up-to-date with insurance carrier guidelines and state requirements for referrals and prior authorization.
• Process, sort and direct incoming/outgoing mail to relevant teams.
• Maintain patient accounts with accurate demographics and insurance data.
• Request medical records and other patient/provider information when appropriate.
• Process credit card transactions from patients and carriers.
• Handle financial hardship applications and adjustments requests.
• Provide feedback to management to improve workflow and reimbursement processes.
• Identify insurance contract opportunities and communicate to Payor Relations.
