Position Summary:

The Insurance Compliance Risk Manager reports to the Vice President, Loan Servicing. The role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to insurance on the HDC property portfolio; serving as a subject matter expert on insurance claim matters and market trends; and conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with HDC insurance guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Insurance, researching market trends and recommending solutions to mitigate loan defaults.
  2. Manage a team reviewing insurance certificates for various property and liability insurances.
  3. Oversee insurance premium payments and escrow analysis.
  4. Coordinate insurance claim endorsements and fund releases.
  5. Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  6. Generate compliance reports and implement protocols.
  7. Collaborate with legal and development teams on insurance issues.
  8. Perform audits, risk analysis, and controls regularly.
  9. Maintain up-to-date insurance requirements and update carrier ratings.
  10. Develop relationships with insurance brokers for efficient tracking.
  11. Monitor mortgage insurance premiums and approve payments.
  12. Partner with internal and external clients to provide service.
  13. Coach and mentor team members.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, or Legal; certifications like ARM, CPCU, CRM, RPLU preferred. JD, MBA, MPA acceptable.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Property and Casualty Insurance and Risk Management.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial property and liability insurance, claims, and market conditions.
  • Strategic thinking and solution execution skills.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Insurance industry designations or Property & Casualty License a plus.
  • Familiarity with HUD, Fannie Mae, and SONYMA a plus.
  • Understanding of New York construction insurance landscape a plus.
