Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking a Referral & Insurance Specialist for the Palmetto Greenville Urology location in Greenville, SC. The role focuses on obtaining insurer authorizations, verifying coverage, scheduling tests, and assisting patients with billing questions.

You will enter charges, post payments, collect copays, and support interdepartmental relations to ensure accurate patient data and timely referrals. This is an on-site position at Greenville facilities.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience in a related medical field with experience in processing referrals.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience with insurance authorizations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtains authorizations from insurers for referrals to physicians/medical facilities and/or procedures/testing.
• Schedules testing appointments and physician visits.
• Verifies eligibility/coverage for referral/testing via phone/fax/Internet.
• Investigates billing problems and denials.
• Notifies patients of referral status and provides instructions.
• Inputs patient and insurance changes into the billing system.
• Answers calls, takes messages, schedules appointments, and greets patients.
• Prepares daily patient charge encounter forms and updates patient charts.
• Balancing daily patient co-pays and reconciling charge slips.
• Collects and applies payments to patient accounts; posts to the billing system.
• Reconciles charge slips and maintains accurate totals.
