Primary Job Function

In order to help Texas Bay Credit Union (TBCU) stand out as a leading financial institution the Insurance Sales Agent is responsible for building a profitable, member-focused insurance operation by offering various insurance products, including life, property, casualty, health, and automotive insurance. This role involves recommending insurance coverage based on thorough due diligence and needs assessments to determine the best insurance solutions through our carrier partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Hold and maintain an active Life, Accident, Property, Casualty, and General Lines insurance license.
  • Attend all continuing education classes related to the insurance license, if applicable.
  • Sell various types of insurance policies to credit union members on behalf of insurance companies.
  • Approach potential clients through mailings, phone solicitation, presentations to groups, and public speaking engagements on financial well-being.
  • Customize insurance programs to suit individual clients, covering a variety of risks.
  • Calculate premiums and establish payment methods using our quoting systems.
  • Develop coordinated protection plans by calculating and quoting rates for immediate coverage and long-term strategy implementation.
  • Call on policyholders to deliver and explain policies, analyze insurance programs, and suggest additions or changes.
  • Confer with clients to provide information when claims are made on a policy.
  • Develop marketing strategies to compete with other individuals or companies selling insurance.
  • Establish a base of long-term clients through referrals, occupational, and special-interest groups.
  • Ensure policy requirements are fulfilled, including necessary medical examinations and completion of appropriate forms.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including record maintenance and policy renewals.
  • Evaluate financial risk and follow contract, property, or insurance laws.
  • Seek out new clients and develop clientele by networking with Credit Union employees and promoting in-house referral programs.
  • Stay updated on industry knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and maintaining personal networks.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct sales presentations to clients and board of directors.
  • Actively contribute to creating and maintaining a positive work environment and a strong company-wide culture.
  • Perform additional duties as needed for other team members.

Physical Demands

The physical demands outlined below are indicative of those necessary for an employee to effectively carry out the essential functions of this position. Regular requirements include walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, kneeling, talking, and hearing. Climbing stairs may be required on occasion. Occasionally, the employee may need to lift and/or move objects weighing between 10‑15 pounds. This role involves prolonged periods of viewing a computer monitor, and travel to and from all credit union offices may be required.
