Job summary

Selby Jennings is seeking an Accounting Manager for a well-established insurance organization undergoing a finance and accounting transformation. This hands-on role reports to the VP of Accounting and focuses on statutory accounting, regulatory reporting, and improving close processes.

The role offers visibility across leadership, collaboration with auditors, and opportunities to stabilize critical accounting and reporting functions within a fast-paced environment. CPA preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 6-8+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the insurance industry.
• Strong statutory accounting (STAT) expertise and regulatory reporting experience.
• Hands-on experience with the NAIC Annual Statement.
• Knowledge of both GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing accounting staff.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, transformational environment.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full-cycle accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
• Manage and improve the month-end and year-end close processes
• Oversee statutory accounting (STAT) activities and regulatory reporting requirements
• Prepare and support audited statutory financial statements and related audits
• Manage and review components of the NAIC Annual Statement process
• Partner with accounting leadership to address reporting backlogs and strengthen internal processes
• Supervise and develop a team of accountants, including senior and staff-level professionals
• Collaborate on ERP transformation and general ledger implementation initiatives
• Support both GAAP and STAT accounting functions across the finance organization
• Provide technical accounting guidance and ensure compliance with insurance industry reporting standards
