McCarthy Building Companies is looking for a skilled Instrumentation & Controls Technician Lead in Tomball, TX. In this role, you will supervise and mentor craft professionals in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Lead the on-site installation and modification of instrumentation, control systems, and PLC components, ensuring compliance with engineering schematics, applicable industry codes, and established safety standards.
•Mentor junior technicians, promoting best practices, safety compliance, and quality workmanship.
•Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and calibrate various industrial equipment and instrumentation systems (Pumps, Motors, VFDs, Gauges, Switches, etc.)
•Collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure accurate and efficient execution of project designs.
•Maintain detailed documentation of all field activities to ensure QA/QC compliance and facilitate continuous improvement through lessons learned.
•Maintain a clean, organized, and visually professional work environment at all times.
•Enforce OSHA safety standards, proper PPE usage, and hazard mitigation procedures rigorously.
SKILLS REQUIRED
•Proven ability to effectively manage and mentor teams to produce consistently high-quality results.
•Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and applicable industry codes (NEC, UL, etc.).
•Proficiency with hand and power tools, multimeters, and diagnostic instrumentation.
•Experience with typical instrumentation in water and wastewater control systems, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, analytical instruments, actuators, level controllers, and auto-dialers.
•Keen attention to detail, with a strong commitment to neat, professional installation and repairs.
•Skilled in conduit installation, PVC piping, tubing systems, and wire pulling. QUALIFICATIONS
•Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within an industrial or field-service environment.
•Field experience in instrumentation installation, startup, and commissioning.
•Familiarity with water and wastewater treatment processes and infrastructure.
•Experience with control panel fabrication, wiring, and testing (PLC panels, local control panels, etc.).
•Experience working with industrial automation equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and SCADA systems.
•Must have reliable transportation to/from the job site
•Ability to work independently and follow instructions
•Must be self-motivated and can work well with others
•Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
•Ability to perform heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of material weighing 50 pounds
•Ability to squat, crawl, and work in confined spaces
•Minimum age 18+
