Instrumentation Technician C – Boeing

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. BT&E seeks an Instrumentation Technician C to join our team in Seattle, WA, installing instrumentation on all models of Boeing aircraft.

Position Responsibilities

• Receive work assignments, obtain necessary materials and equipment.
• Identify and procure engineering drawings and test documents for assignments.
• Fabricate wire or fiber‑optic bundles to connect test equipment for data collection.
• Set up and perform qualification, bench, or automatic tests per assignment and test documents.
• Install fiber‑optic strain gauges, thermocouples, accelerometers, and strain gauges by soldering, bonding, spot welding, or mechanical fastening.
• Use a scissor or boom lift to access installation areas inside hangars and on airfields.
• Modify test equipment to meet engineering configurations.
• Select appropriate hand, power, and bench tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, torque wrenches, crimpers, cable tools, band saw, drill press, and sander.
• Use shop tools and test equipment to complete assignments.
• Maintain records including tie‑ins and work logs.
• Devise shop aids and work‑around methods to troubleshoot systems.
• Handle and protect static‑sensitive components per shop procedures.
• Dispose of hazardous materials (ketone, naphtha, alcohol, epoxy, acids) following SDS and PPE requirements.
• Pack electronic equipment for travel per Boeing specifications.
• Verify work after each operation to ensure compliance with drawings and instructions.
• Submit completed or reworked work for inspection.
• Coordinate with team leader, supervisor, engineer, or planner for assistance.
• Maintain personal and tool certifications per company policy.
• Comply with tool control policies.
• Travel up to 10 % of the time domestically or internationally.

Physical Demands

• Frequent (3‑6 hrs): carrying <10 lbs, climbing/balancing, finger manipulation, flexion/extension, handling, lifting <10 lbs, overhead reach, head/neck rotation, sitting, standing, walking.
• Occasional (1‑3 hrs): bending at waist, carrying 10‑35 lbs, twisting at waist, using low‑impact vibratory tools, lying down, foot‑control operation, pushing/pulling 10‑35 lbs, kneeling, lifting 10‑35 lbs, crawling, crouching.

Chemicals & Materials

• Frequent (3‑6 hrs): metals (aluminum, brass, iron, Monel, nickel, steel), plastics (acrylic, fiberglass, graphite, resins), sealants (latex, polysulfide, silicon), solvents (acetone, turpentine, MEK, MPK, Isopropanol), adhesives (epoxy, acrylonitrile, organic rubber).
• Occasional (1‑3 hrs): alkalis (acid neutralizers, strong detergents), liquid coatings (etching mask, lacquer, penetrant), acids (boric, muriatic, nitric, hydrochloric).

Environmental Conditions

• Continuous (6‑8 hrs): noise.
• Frequent (3‑6 hrs): non‑ionizing radiation, elevated platforms, extreme heat.
• Occasional (1‑3 hrs): atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dust), confined spaces, welding equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment

• Continuous (6‑8 hrs): face/eye protection (safety glasses, goggles), fall protection (safety belts, harnesses, lifeline), protective footwear (steel‑toed shoes, rubber boot).
• Frequent (3‑6 hrs): protective headwear (welding helmets, hard hats), hand/arm protection (gloves, arm protectors), hearing protection (ear inserts, canal caps).

Basic Qualifications

• 1+ year experience reading and interpreting wire harness diagrams and installation schematics.
• 1+ year experience in electrical (wire shop) fabrication and required processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of strain‑gauging experience.
• 3+ years of experience in Aircraft Electrical systems.
• Certifications in Electrical (Crimping, Bonding, Ground), Mechanical (fork lift, hand truck, pressure/vacuum), or Safety (Electrical, Egress, Explosives).

Hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinist (IAM–751) Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Pay & Benefits

Hourly pay: $27.32 – $57.88 (based on experience and qualifications). Total Rewards package includes competitive base pay, variable compensation, health insurance, FSA, HSA, retirement plans, life & disability insurance, paid & unpaid time off.
