Job summary

Nominal is seeking an Instrumentation intern in New York that operates at the boundary between software and hardware test systems. You will write code that talks to hardware during field tests, contribute to the instro library, and collaborate with engineers to get setups running quickly.

You will gain hands-on experience with data acquisition, industrial hardware, and test automation while mentoring from instrumentation and product teams. Summer 2027 graduates welcome for a full-time role.

Qualifications

• On track to graduate Summer 2027 or sooner.
• Experience with Python or Rust fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems or test instruments.
• Ability to read hardware manuals and protocol specs; experience with open source or hardware abstraction layers.

Responsibilities

• Write Python and/or Rust software to interface with hardware in field.
• Automate data collection and control across test environments.
• Contribute new drivers/instruments to instrumentation library (instro).
• Collaborate with engineers on-site to set up tests and troubleshoot integrations.
• Own a scoped hardware-software integration project with mentorship.
