Job summary

Nominal is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 in Los Angeles, CA. You will bridge software and hardware test systems, writing code that talks directly to hardware on test stands, clean rooms, or industrial setups.

The role offers mentorship and hands-on experience across hardware instrumentation and software integration. You will contribute to real customer test campaigns, work with the open-source instro library, and collaborate with a cross-functional team to ship

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or equivalent in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field, graduating Summer 2028.
• Strong Python and/or Rust fundamentals.
• Experience with data acquisition systems or test instrumentation.
• Experience contributing to open source or hardware abstraction layers.

Responsibilities

• Develop Python/Rust software to interface with hardware using PyVISA and vendor SDKs.
• Automate data collection and control in test environments.
• Contribute drivers to the instro open-source library.
• Collaborate on-site with engineers to run test setups and troubleshoot hardware-software integrations.
• Own a hardware-software integration project with mentorship.
