Job summary

Nominal is seeking an Instrumentation intern to join our hardware-centric team in Los Angeles, bridging software and physical test hardware and helping integrate Nominal solutions on test stands and industrial setups.

You’ll work with Python and Rust, gain hands-on experience with data acquisition systems, and contribute to an open-source instrumentation library while collaborating with engineers and mentors on real-world campaigns.

Qualifications

• On track to graduate Summer 2027 or sooner.
• Hands-on with data acquisition systems, test instruments, embedded hardware, or robotics projects.
• Strong Python and/or Rust fundamentals; comfortable reading hardware manuals and protocol specs.

Responsibilities

• Write reliable Python and/or Rust software to interface with hardware and automate data collection.
• Help automate data collection and control processes across hardware test environments.
• Contribute new drivers and instruments to the instrumentation library (instro).
• Work on-site with engineers to get test setups running and troubleshoot hardware-software integrations.
• Take ownership of a scoped hardware-software integration project from start to finish with mentorship.
