Job summary

Caterpillar in Clayton, NC is seeking an Instrumentation Manager to lead the CMDC/SMDC teams across sites, shaping instrumentation strategy, resources, and data quality from concept to customer delivery.

You’ll oversee calibration, safety, and standard work, while coordinating with test, operations, and quality teams to ensure reliable measurement data and test readiness for NPI/CPI programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an associate degree with 6+ years in testing/validation/product development.
• Strong knowledge of sensors, instrumentation, data acquisition, calibration, and traceability.
• Experience leading technicians with delegation, feedback, and capability building.
• Ability balance daily execution with long-term capability needs using data and risk.
• Proven problem solving for downtime, calibration and data-quality issues.
• Customer-focused communication, relationship building, and urgency in priority shifts.
• Experience delivering technical projects across locations and functions while managing cost and schedule.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop instrumentation technicians across CMDC and SMDC.
• Plan workload, schedules, bay space, and cross-site resource sharing.
• Standardize methods, documentation, naming, calibration, and data verification.
• Manage sensors, DAQ systems, calibration status, inventory and equipment.
• Own ISO 17025 compliance, calibration traceability, and documentation controls.
• Communicate constraints, equipment concerns, risks, and data quality to internal customers.
• Develop standard work, training materials, onboarding plans, and reference guides.
• Drive safety, quality, readiness, setup efficiency, and cross-site integration.
• Plan capital/expense investments and coordinate procurement and supplier support.
• Turn lessons learned into process and training improvements.
