Job summary

LSU New Orleans seeks an instrumentation engineer to provide technical and engineering support for the NAME teaching and research laboratories, including the towing and wave tank. The role involves developing data acquisition and control software, maintaining instrumentation, and assisting with demonstrations and student recruitment.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and experience in model testing, LabVIEW programming, and electronic circuit development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, naval architecture and marine engineering, or related field
• Experience in model testing and NI LabVIEW program development
• Ability to develop and manufacture electronic circuits
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Ability to read mechanical/electrical drawings, and read and develop circuit diagrams

Responsibilities

• Assure laboratories are organized, stocked, and in safe working order
• Support maintenance, operation, repair and development of instrumentation and equipment
• Maintain computers supporting teaching and research with appropriate software/hardware
• Develop data acquisition and control software (NI LabVIEW, Python)
• Perform model testing in the NAME towing and wave tank
• Assist NAME faculty and graduate students with research efforts
• Instruct students in safe operation of equipment
• Provide testing and engineering support for industry interactions and outreach projects
• Other duties as assigned by NAME Chair
