Job summary

thyssenkrupp nucera USA is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to support instrumentation activities for industrial process projects. The role reports to the Instrumentation Lead and covers design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

You will develop deliverables, review instrumentation specs, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure compliance with ISA/IEC/NEC/API standards. Hybrid work and international travel are involved.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related electrical discipline.
• EIT/FE certification and pursuing PE licensure; PE preferred.
• NCEES record and reciprocity ability as needed.
• Minimum 3 years of instrumentation engineering in industrial facilities.
• Experience with valve sizing, field instrumentation design, and specs.
• DCS/PLC/SCADA and SIS knowledge is a plus.
• Strong ISA, IEC, NEC, NFPA, API standards knowledge.
• Experience delivering instrumentation in projects.
• MS Office and SmartPlant/COMOS/AutoCAD familiarity.
• TWIC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop instrumentation deliverables: instrument index, I/O lists, datasheets, loop diagrams, hook‑up drawings.
• Specify and review field instrumentation per project requirements.
• Perform design activities: cable engineering, BOM estimation, instrument layout.
• Prepare specs, material requisitions, bid evaluations, vendor doc review.
• Support HAZOP/LOPA/SIS studies and influence P&IDs and control philosophies.
• Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, piping, and automation teams.
• Participate in 3D model reviews for constructability.
• Interface with clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Review DCS/PLC/SCADA/SIS documentation; support FAT/SAT/loop checks.
• Support retrofit, brownfield, and maintenance activities; ensure standards compliance.
