Job summary

City of Ventura seeks an Instrumentation and Electrical Technician to install, maintain, and repair electrical and control systems for Ventura Water facilities. You will work on PLC- and SCADA-driven processes, instrumentation, and electrical distribution equipment in a safety‑minded environment.

The role requires reading schematics, troubleshooting electrical panels, and coordinating with engineers and contractors. Applicants must have a two-year technical degree and a valid CA driver license.

Qualifications

A combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a two-year college program in electrical/electronic technology, computer science or a related field, and two years of experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic control systems are required.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver license is required.

Responsibilities

Installing, maintaining, calibrating, and repairing instrumentation and control equipment such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, sensors, analyzers, recorders, VFDs, and PLC-based systems.
Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and electronic failures in control panels and related systems.
Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on SCADA-monitored systems to ensure operational reliability.
Programming, configuring, and updating PLC, HMI, and telemetry components.
Interpreting electrical drawings and wiring diagrams to support repairs and installations.
Coordinating with engineers and technicians on system upgrades and capital projects.
