Job summary

The Instrumentation & Controls Technician at Darling Ingredients Inc. is responsible for the maintenance of all electrical control devices within the plant. This role operates on Day Shift and is on call as needed.

The technician reads electrical drawings, troubleshoots controls, installs and programs devices including VFDs and PLCs, and ensures safety and environmental regulations are met. Strong collaboration with supervisors and maintenance staff is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years of work experience in instrumentation & controls.
  • Experience in troubleshooting systems and circuits, preferably with Allen-Bradley.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of 4–20 mA systems.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and instructions to rebuild, install and calibrate equipment.
  • Troubleshoot controls and electrical systems to ensure proper operation of all plant equipment.
  • Install and program all electrical devices, including VFDs, PLCs, and instrumentation.
  • Load programming and install it into PLCs and/or draw Ladder Logic diagrams to match such.
  • Aid in facility maintenance/repair as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations and programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Keep maintenance up-to-date and stay current with reporting/recordkeeping requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and instructions to rebuild, install and calibrate equipment.
  • Aid and assist procurement of Electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot controls and electrical system to ensure proper operation of all plant equipment.
  • Communicate and interface with upper management in a responsible and professional manner.
  • Install and program all electrical devices, including VFDs, PLCs, and instrumentation.
  • Load programming and install it into PLCs and/or draw Ladder Logic diagrams to match such.
  • Aid in facility maintenance/repair as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and programs.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for safe performance of duties.
  • Keep maintenance up-to-date and stay current with reporting/recordkeeping requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to make decisions based on measurable criteria.
Physical Demands
  • Constantly required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
  • Frequently lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally must push, pull, move or lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Regularly required reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights, climb ladders and stairways.
  • Ability to move in and around confined or cluttered spaces and uneven areas.
Work Environment

Job functions will be carried out in an office and/or plant environment with tolerance for wet and/or slippery floors, high heat and/or cold temperatures, noise, dirt and smell variations.
