Job summary

Ingredion’s Winston Salem Facility is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to ensure safe, reliable operation of automated plant processes. You will troubleshoot, install, calibrate and maintain instrumentation, valves and control panels, while supporting maintenance projects and training other staff.

The role requires hands-on work with 4–20mA signals, HART communication, and familiarity with Rockwell/Allen Bradley systems; on-call rotations and overtime may apply per shift

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Coursework in controls, electrical or electronics preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting Rockwell Automation PLC systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety initiatives and promote a zero-injury culture.
  • Provide instrumentation services: troubleshooting, installation, calibration and commissioning.
  • Document service work, calibrations and variance reports.

Full job description: We are Hiring!! Pay rate: $34/hr up to $45/hr (Based on experience).

Benefits
  • Vacation: Accrual rate of 2 weeks beginning the first of the month following the hire date.

Schedule & Hours
  • 8‑hour rotating shift. Working the first shift for 4 weeks and transitioning to the second shift on the 5th week.
  • Availability to work weekends every 5th week.
  • Availability to be on call for 2nd and 3rd shifts.
Overtime
  • Over 8 hours pays 1.5x wage.
  • Sunday pays 2x wage.
  • Called, but not called in pays 1.5x wage in 30 minute increments.
  • Called, called in pays 1.5x wage with a 4 hour minimum payout.
Position Overview

The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient performance of the automated plant processes, systems and lines, while supporting teamwork amongst all departments at Ingredion’s Winston Salem Facility. They must be multi‑crafted with a heavy emphasis on software, control systems and instrumentation. Their work includes on‑line troubleshooting and repair, planned work, continuous improvement, capital projects, maintenance projects and training of other technicians and plant operators.

  • Ensuring that company, customer, and regulatory procedures for safety, quality, production and costs are carried out effectively and efficiently across their respective shift.
  • Participate in and promote safety programs at all levels every day.
  • Providing instrumentation services including troubleshooting, configuration, installation, documentation, checkout and commissioning of instrumentation and valves.
  • Managing workload to maintain effectiveness and productivity.
  • Accurately documenting instrumentation service work and actively sharing instrumentation information. Documentation will include work orders, calibration reports, variance reports and MOC documents.
  • Training and supporting non‑technical users on the use of plant floor automation systems.
  • Maintaining instrument as‑built documentation.
  • Working with 4‑20mA analog signals and discrete signals.
  • Experience with HART communication, Rockwell Software, Allen Bradley Drives is a plus.
  • Removing pressure, flow and temperature devices and performing calibrations to ensure accuracy.
  • Testing instrument interlocks with PLC to ensure proper operation.
  • Installing instruments and SS tubing.
  • Installing, auditing (voltage/amp check, MEGL) and commissioning equipment to ensure proper operation and functionality.
  • Performing wire terminations on instruments and PLC panels.
  • Providing start‑up support for new instruments in new processes.
  • Supporting the introduction to the plant of new control technologies such as device networks, modular I/O, PLC programming software, etc.
  • Providing input into site engineering standards for programming and systems design.
  • Performing other electrical duties such as bending conduit and pulling wire.
  • Performing other duties as assigned or required by manager.

Qualified Candidates
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Schooling in controls, electrical or electronics preferred, including courses in computer science.
  • Ability to troubleshoot programs residing in the Rockwell Automation PLC Control Systems in the plant.
  • Good understanding of interfacing with PLCs, scales and display devices.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a maintenance capacity within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems using 480V 3‑phase as well as 240V through 24V single‑phase systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) hardware including Allen Bradley PLCs as well as others used in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, analyze and resolve technical problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and basic intermediate PLC ladder logic.
  • Working knowledge of Allen Bradley, ABB and Factory Talk variable frequency drives and other common drives used in the field.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial plant systems, equipment and operations.
  • Proficiency in using industrial mechanics tools, electrician’s tools, instrumentation and controls tools and rigging/millwork tools.
  • Working knowledge of food safety, GMP, HACCP, SPC.
  • Willingness to work nights, occasional weekends and overtime.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform all needed physical activities without restrictions (maximum of 50pounds lifting).
  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk, climb stairs in hot and/or wet environments while wearing appropriate safety gear.
  • Ability to use hands to handle, feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear.
  • Occasional sitting, lifting and moving up to 50pounds.
