Instrumentation and Control Project Engineer

Position Overview

The Project Engineer – Instrument and Controls (PE-IC) is responsible for controls design and instrumentation application associated with FTI projects. They should be knowledgeable of PLC and DCS technology platforms and their applications, and capable of generating or reviewing project documentation such as functional descriptions, panel layout drawings, logic diagrams, controls lists (BOM, I/O, Alarm, and Setpoint Lists), and conducting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

Responsibilities:

• Perform I/C project duties and support projects as required
• Component selection and logic sequence design
• Interface with controls suppliers, vendors, consultants, and contractors
• Review I/C drawings from sub-contractors
• Write functional descriptions, sequences of operation, equipment manuals, system descriptions, and design criteria for I/C systems
• Establish control methodology and strategy in collaboration with project and process engineering teams
• Create various I/C drawings including SAMA diagrams, electrical, and one-line diagrams
• Participate in sub-contractor shop testing (FAT), FTI shop equipment testing, and project start-up
• Maintain communication with OEM companies such as Rockwell Software and Revere Electric
• Stay current on I/C industry developments, especially PLC technology
• Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure on-time delivery
• Maintain proper electrical and I/C documentation
• Assist field personnel in troubleshooting electrical and I/C issues
• Generate tagging schemes based on client requirements, knowledgeable in ISA and KKS platforms
• Understand remote networking capabilities like eWon
• This role is self-directed and does not supervise Fuel Tech employees directly

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or related technical degree
• 3 to 5 years of project engineering experience with instrumentation and controls
• Experience programming Allen-Bradley PLCs, especially Control Logix family
• Familiarity with Panelview, FactoryTalk View SE, and other platforms
• Experience with instrumentation setup, loop checks, and troubleshooting
