Job summary

Messer Americas in Torrance, CA is seeking an Instrument Technician I to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our continuous chemical manufacturing process. You will implement preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance and follow local and national regulations.

Key duties include applying safety policies, LOTO, MOC, maintaining instrumentation, calibrating devices, troubleshooting control loops, and supporting plant startups and shutdowns.

Qualifications

• HSD or GED required.
• 3 years of relevant process plant operations experience.
• ISA Level 1 certification must be obtained within two years of hire.
• Certificate in technical discipline or two-year degree accepted in lieu of ISA 1.
• Physically able to perform duties including lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Valid driver's license and ability to climb to heights.

Responsibilities

• Understand and adhere to safety policies; lead and participate in safety meetings.
• Apply LOTO and energy isolation procedures as required for personnel.
• Follow MOC procedures for all changes to process and operating procedures.
• Calibrate, configure, and repair field instrumentation and electrical control loops.
• Assist in shutdowns, start-ups, and production state changes; support CMMS (SAP).
