Job summary

Taurus Industrial Group is seeking an Instrument Technician in Baton Rouge, LA to install, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and test instrumentation and control systems used in industrial facilities. You will ensure instruments, analyzers, transmitters, control valves, and other equipment operate safely and efficiently to support production and operations.

You will work with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to minimize downtime and uphold safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or technical cert in Instrumentation, Electrical Tech, Industrial Maintenance, Process Tech or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years as Instrument Technician in industrial settings.
• Ability to read P&IDs, loop drawings, electrical schematics, and manuals.
• Knowledge of process instrumentation, control systems, and equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability.
• Pass pre-employment screenings and site requirements.
• TWIC or similar credentials may be required.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate instrumentation and control devices.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on instrumentation systems.
• Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Test and calibrate pressure, flow, level, temperature, and analytical instruments.
• Install and repair control valves, transmitters, switches, gauges, and related equipment.
• Assist with commissioning, startup, shutdown, and turnaround activities.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Ensure proper operation of PLC, DCS, and related control systems.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
• Comply with safety and environmental regulations.
• Coordinate with teams for repairs and maintenance.

Summary

The Instrument Technician is responsible for installing, calibrating, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and testing instrumentation and control systems used in industrial facilities. This position ensures that instruments, analyzers, transmitters, control valves, and other process control equipment operate safely, accurately, and efficiently to support production and operational objectives. The Instrument Technician works closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel to minimize downtime and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurable driving status.

Essential Functions

• Coordinate with operations and maintenance personnel to schedule repairs and maintenance activities.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
• Respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, climb, balance, push, and pull while performing pipefitting activities.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and handle heavier piping materials, tools, or equipment using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from scaffolds, elevated work platforms, pipe racks, and other industrial work areas as required.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with measuring, layout, fitting, bolting, tool use, and material handling.
• Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:

• Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
• Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, piping systems, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
• Work may be performed around operating process units, piping systems, elevated work areas, excavations, structures, mobile equipment, and ongoing construction or maintenance activities.
• Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
