Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Technician for the evening shift. Responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and distributing reusable instruments, and assembling OR case carts for surgical use.

Reports to Sterile Processing leadership and maintains instrument inventory and records. Responsibilities include decontamination, wrapping, and sterilization of instruments across Mercy facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required with an interest in continuing education.
• CRCST certification preferred after the 2nd year of employment.

• Maintains inventory and handles decontamination, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies.
• Ensures OR case carts are properly set up with instruments for the procedure.

Position Purpose

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsibility for the cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment and the decontamination and assembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the Hospital and Mercy Family clinics. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures that all the instruments necessary to do the procedure are on the cart, ready for surgical use.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Tech is responsible under the direction of a specific OR clinical leader in a specific area for instrument inventory, ordering, vendor and repair of instruments.

What you will Do

• Cooperates and communicates with and accepts direction from the Director of Sterile Processing, Surgical Services, Sterile Processing supervisor and OR clinical leaders as it relates to the preparation and distribution of surgery supplies and case cart setups on a daily basis. • Maintains an accurate inventory of supplies in work areas and assumes the responsibility for decontamination, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment. (team Work, Initiative)

• Responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures that all the instruments necessary to do that particular case are on the cart and ready for surgical use. (Initiative, Team Work)

• Responsible for the cleaning, wrapping, assembling and sterilization of all hospital and Mercy Clinic instruments and equipment. (Initiative, Continuous Learner)

Hours/Schedule

• Full time 1.0 (40 hours per week)
• 2nd shift

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required with an interest in continuing education.
• Preferred CRCST (Certified Registered Central Supply Tech) Certificate after the 2nd year of employment
