Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA is hiring an OR Aide to support the surgical team. You will assist with cleaning, sterilizing, distribution and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment, and assemble instruments for the OR and Mercy Family clinics.

The role requires no experience, a willingness to learn, and basic computer skills. BLS certification is required before employment or within 30 days, and on-call availability may be required.

Responsibilities

• Clean, sterilize, distribute and record patient reusable supplies and equipment.
• Decontaminate and assemble instruments for the OR and clinics.
• Ensure OR case carts are properly set up with needed instruments.
• Support surgical team and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.

As an OR Aide at MercyOne, you will be responsible for the cleaning, sterilization,distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment and the decontamination andassembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the hospital and Mercy Family clinics. The ORAide / Instrument Technician is responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures thatall the instruments necessary to do the procedure are on the cart, ready for surgical use. As a memberof the surgical team, helps to provide a safe and secure environment for patients and staff. Thesurgical nurse aide assists in the implementation of the AORN Standards of Care, Mercyone CenterNorth Iowa and Operating Room Policies and Procedures.

Schedule:

• Full time 1.0 (40 hours per week)
• Day Shift

General Requirements:

• No experience required
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Must have basic computer skills.
• Ability to meet departmental “on call” requirements.
• Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American HeartAssociation; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) viacurrent card prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains currentstatus.
• Completes Mandatory Reporting requirement within 6 months of hire and renews thisrequirement every 5 years
• Adaptability to learn new instruments and table setups as required by surgicalprocedure.

Education:

• High school diploma or certificate required with an interest in continuing education.
• Preferred Certified Nursing assistant or health care experience equivalent.
• Preferred CRCST (Certified Registered Central Supply Technician) Certificate in theSecond year of employment
• Preferred CST (Certified Surgical Technician) Certificate will be accepted
