Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Technician to join our team at the Surgery Center in Creve Coeur, MO.

You will clean and decontaminate instruments, inspect and assemble them for sterilization, and maintain accurate documentation of all processes. The role requires at least 4 months of sterile processing experience or 400 hours of hands-on work, and CRCST or CSPDT certification.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 months experience in Sterile Processing or 400 hours of hands-on experience.
• CRCST or CSPDT Certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD.
• Must have basic computer skills; PPE required; able to interact with staff; follow directions; operate equipment.

Responsibilities

• Clean and decontaminate instruments and equipment.
• Inspect, test function and assemble instruments for sterilization.
• Maintain documentation of processes in logs or computer systems.
• Prioritize instrumentation for processing and dispatch instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Follow hospital policies and Mercy standards.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
